Urination Changes

Some chemotherapy medicines may cause changes in your urine or your urination patterns. Since the kidneys play a role in helping the body get rid of the chemo medicines, expect changes. Some chemotherapy medicines may change the color of your urine, while others may increase your risk for a urinary tract infection (UTI) or other complications.

Manage Urinary Changes

  • Drink 8-10 glasses of water per day, unless your doctor has told you otherwise
  • Avoid beverages with caffeine and/or alcohol

When to Call the Doctor

Call the doctor or nurse about:

  • Fever of 100.5°F or higher
  • Changes in urine appearance, such as cloudiness, blood or color
  • Frequent urges to urinate
  • Pain or burning with urination
  • Strong-smelling urine
