Swelling
Chemotherapy, some types of cancer, hormone changes, medications and other health problems can cause swelling. It is most noticeable in the feet, ankles, hands and face.
Prevent Swelling
- Elevate the feet, when possible.
- Read food labels and avoid foods with a high salt content.
- Try not to stand or walk for too long at one time.
- Wear special stockings, loose clothing and shoes that are not too tight.
- Weigh at the same time every day.
When to Call the Doctor
Tell the doctor about:
- An irregular or pounding heartbeat
- Major decrease in urine output
- New swelling in the body
- Quick weight gain
- Shortness of breath
- Sudden swelling or swelling that gets worse
