Peripheral Neuropathy

Treatment Options

Our Cancer Rehab & Wellness Center can help manage your neuropathy.

Call 816.691.1795.

Chemotherapy can damage the peripheral nerves, affecting the ability to feel (sensory neuropathy), move (motor neuropathy) or both. Peripheral neuropathy is usually limited to nerves in your fingers, hands and toes, but it may affect your arms, legs or mid-part of the body (trunk). Diabetes, alcohol misuse, hypothyroidism, immune system disease and other medications increase the risk of developing peripheral neuropathy.

Physical therapy may help improve neuropathy symptoms, build strength, increase balance and promote safety. Additionally, certain medications can reduce symptoms. Talk with the doctor or nurse about treatment options.
