Breastfeeding offers you and your new baby many nutritional and emotional benefits. Whether breastfeeding is a new experience for you, or you need a quick refresher, our team at North Kansas City Hospital can help you and your baby get the most out of this time together.

Our nurses and lactation consultants show you proper breastfeeding techniques, so you feel confident and comfortable feeding your baby when you're ready to go home from the hospital.

Breastfeeding Supplies

If you choose to breastfeed, you will need nursing pads and daytime and nighttime nursing bras. You also might want:

  • A comfortable chair and nursing pillow
  • Lanolin cream for sore or cracked nipples
  • Shirts and pjs with nursing panels or that are big enough to tuck your baby under

How Long Should I Breastfeed?

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for at least six months (preferably a year) following an infant’s birth.
