We all fantasize about spending uninterrupted, carefree hours with our friends, partners and kids. In reality, few of us can afford that luxury. Try these tips for making the most of cherished time with your favorite people.

Plan For It

Your family may be in the same room, or your best friend may be right across the table, but it’s not quality time if everyone is scrolling through their phone. Consider scheduling quality time with your partner, bestie or kids. Whether it’s taking a walk with your child on Saturday mornings, or meeting your friends for coffee once a month, make a date and keep it. Your email can wait.

Stay Focused

Spending time with loved ones is great, but who’s going to pay bills, empty the dishwasher, mow the lawn, attend school events and do the one million other things that life requires? It’s tough, but doable. The secret is to be present in the moment. When you’re at work, focus on the tasks at hand. On date night, give your partner your undivided attention. Snuggling with the kids? Soak up every second.

Grab Your Girlfriends

Our gal pals often come in dead last in the list of people who get our time. But girl time, whether it’s for an entire weekend or one hour, is good for the soul. Girlfriends give us laughs, perspective and advice like nobody else.
