Connecting with kids through conversation isn’t always easy. Move beyond “How was your day?” Ask questions that are sure to bring belly laughs, spark creative debate and give fresh perspectives on your favorite people.
Before you look at the list, think about your own response when someone asks, “How are you?” or “How was your day?” It’s probably along the lines of “Fine,” or “Good.” Every once in a while, something exciting happens, and you have a story to tell. But, for most people, things are usually pretty status quo. Ditto for your kids.
If you want to engage your child in conversation, ask engaging questions. Kids have such creative brains. Out-of-the-ordinary questions give them a chance to show off that creativity, think about life’s bigger picture and stretch their critical thinking skills. Try asking open-ended questions, which require more than a “Yes” or “No” answer.

Now, go forth and gab!
