One of the best ways to stick to your fitness goals is to share them with others. If you don’t have a local group of gals to motivate you, connecting on social media can be the next best thing.
Act Accountable
Checking in with friends and family on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social outlets keeps you accountable for your health and wellness goals. Plus, seeing people just like you actively trying to reach their own health goals is an instant motivator.
Use the Tools
- Workout in the a.m.? Post your schedule the night before.
- Snap and post a pre-gym selfie the next morning. It will squelch the temptation to hit “Snooze.”
- Take advantage of your post-workout high to drop a few details about what you did.
- Create a private fitness group. Members can post meal photos, exercise moves, post-workout selfies and healthy habits. Think of it as having a virtual support group at your fingertips.
- Take time to revel in the “likes” and encouraging comments. Use them for support and future motivation.
- Snap and post a pic or video of a new exercise you tried.
- Motivate your followers with a pic of your latest healthy meal indulgence.
- Search for people with similar interests. You never know what healthy recipes, workouts and advice your fellow Tweeters might share.
Online Inspiration
Stay motivated by following your favorite trainers and fitness pros on social media. Many have blogs, YouTube channels and podcasts that feature their exercise routines, nutrition and exercise news, or insights about fitness apps and trends.

Share Your Setbacks, Too
Life has a funny way of derailing even the best-laid plans. When you regain the pounds you lost or don’t make it to the gym, share that news, too. Everyone can relate. Their “likes” and posts about their own experiences with lapsing and getting back into their fitness routines can be just the inspiration you need to keep trying.
