If North Kansas City can’t go to the beach, the beach will go to North Kansas City, as least relatively speaking. This time next year, you could be riding the waves at Flow House Kansas City, a surfing-themed attraction scheduled to open in One North, a mixed-use development under construction at I-35 and Armour Road (right across the street from the hospital). It will feature the FlowRider, a simulated surf machine.

Health Benefits of SurfingFor landlocked landlubbers who live smack dab in the middle of the United States, this is fun news. It’s also healthy news because surfing can give your body a complete workout.

Health Benefits of Surfing

  • Combines aerobic, cardio and strength training into one activity
  • Improves your stability and balance
  • Uses multiple muscle groups at the same time, so you burn more calories
  • Works your core, arms, shoulders, legs, glutes and back

Even though it’s not the real deal, simulated surfing is still an intense workout. Before you Hang 10, we recommend checking in with your primary care doctor to make sure you’re ready to catch those waves. If you don’t have a doctor, we can help: Find A Doctor.

And, if you do wipe out and need quality medical care, our Emergency Room is right across the street. Our team of emergency medicine experts is prepared for anything.

Last but not least, be sure to brush up on your surfing lingo before next summer. Aloha!
