If you’re looking to help during the coronavirus outbreak, look no further than your older neighbors or people with serious chronic medical conditions. These people are at a higher risk from getting sick from the coronavirus. The sense of isolation can be overwhelming, especially for someone who lives at home.

How to Help Without Putting Them at Risk

  • Offer to do their grocery shopping or pick up their online grocery orders, pharmacy medications or other essential items
  • Help them stay connected socially by calling, texting, emailing or video chatting them every few days
  • Encourage them to get some exercise, even it’s just walking around the house or yard
  • Send flowers, a fun gift basket or a snail mail card to let them know you’re thinking of them

Everyday Precautions

Protect yourself and others with these simple tips.

  • Follow the Stay At Home Order
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
  • Cover your cough with your sleeve or elbow
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or at least 20 seconds, or apply alcohol-based cleaner that contains at least 60% alcohol
  • Avoid touching high-touch surfaces in public places (handrails, elevator buttons, door handles)
  • Practice social distancing by staying at least feet away from others

These are definitely different times, and everyone is adjusting to a new normal. We’re all in this together. The more we can help each other out (while following recommended health practices), the easier life will be.
