Cycling is becoming a popular way to get around town. Following these five tips can help keep you safe when you put the pedal to the pavement.

  • Wear a helmet. Get one specifically for biking that meets approved safety standards and fits properly.
  • Perform a seasonal tuneup. Check the brakes, inspect the tires/tire pressure and make sure the bike fits the rider.
  • Show up. Add reflectors to the front, rear, pedals and hand grips, and wear reflective clothing.
  • Obey traffic laws. Bikes are vehicles so cyclists are held to the same road rules.
  • Don't drink and bike. Alcohol played a factor in 37% of deadly bicycle crashes in 2017.

Playing it safe can help you prevent a trip to the ER. Read more about bike safety.
