For the second consecutive evaluation period, North Kansas City Hospital has earned Magnet® designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This prestigious designation is the gold standard for nursing excellence. Of the 6,093 active hospitals in the United States, NKCH is one of only 595 (9.96%) to earn this distinction.

“This is a great achievement for our entire organization,” said Stephen Reintjes Sr., MD, president and CEO of NKCH and Meritas Health. “Earning Magnet designation for a second time shows our ongoing dedication to providing the highest quality care for our patients.”

The Magnet Model establishes a framework for nursing practice, research and outcome measurement. The ANCC uses the framework to evaluate organizations through an extensive process. It includes an electronic application, an on-site visit and a Commission on Magnet review of patient care documentation. Healthcare organizations must reapply for Magnet evaluation and recognition every four years.

“Long before our first Magnet designation in 2018, we established a hospitalwide culture of respect and collaboration,” said Sarah Oakley, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, vice president and chief nursing officer at NKCH. “That thriving culture is the foundation for our entire organization, inspiring exceptional outcomes and patient care.”
