  1. What is the key difference between Northland CAPS and traditional high school? Northland CAPS is a profession-based learning approach where students are fully immersed in the business community, treated as professionals and participate in authentic projects using industry-standard tools. Medicine and Healthcare students learn "on the job" with physicians, athletic trainers, paramedics and EMTs, nurses, marketing, administration and many other areas both in and out of North Kansas City Hospital. They gain professional abilities in high demand/high skill careers and begin their professional network with business partners and mentors; therefore, they jump-start their career before they enter college.
  2. Is Northland CAPS a trade school or vocational program? No. Northland CAPS provides students the opportunity to deeply explore careers of interest through a profession-based, inquiry-learning method. North Kansas City Hospital staff works with highly-skilled instructors to provide authentic exposure and skill acquisition in high demand/high skill 21st century professions.
  3. What type of credit can be received from a Northland CAPS course? High school credit, elective and college credit is available.
  4. What time are classes be held? Morning and afternoon classes are available. Each strand is 2.5 hours long, and classes meet five days a week for one semester.
  5. How many credits can students earn? Students can earn 1.5 elective credits.
  6. How much does it cost? The student's home school district pays for the program.
  7. Is transportation provided? No. Students must provide their own transportation to and from classes.
  8. Where are the classes located? Medicine and Healthcare classes are held on the North Kansas City Hospital campus.
  9. What do colleges think of a program like Northland CAPS? Colleges and universities believe programs such as Northland CAPS are a differentiator for students. Many students entering college have a strong academic performance, but students with a strong academic performance, professional skills, rigorous internships and a portfolio of authentic business projects leapfrog their college peers.   10. How are students graded? The instructor provides a detailed syllabus, and students are graded on project work, assessments and professional skills such as attendance and dress code.
  11. What is the dress code? Students should dress business casual every day unless otherwise specified by the instructor. 
  12. What if a student does not like the program once he or she begins? Students can withdraw from the program within the first five school days.
