Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)

TAVR is a heart procedure that helps reverse or stop aortic stenosis (narrowing of the aortic valve that prevents blood from flowing normally). The surgeon uses imaging technology and a catheter (thin tube) through a tiny incision to replace the aortic valve. They typically place the new valve over the damaged valve to fully restore blood flow to your body.

Mitral Valve Repair With MitraClip™

NKCH interventional cardiologists are the only physicians in the Northland performing a minimally invasive repair – the MitraClip procedure – to treat mitral regurgitation (MR). In MR, the heart’s mitral valves do not close tightly, causing blood to leak into the heart. Smaller than a dime, the MitraClip stops the leaking without the need for open-heart surgery and reduces the risk of heart failure complications.

Open Heart Surgery

Open heart surgery is considered a major surgical procedure. It involves opening the chest, so a surgeon can access the heart valves, vessels or muscle. This type of operation can involve a lot of preparation and recovery. At NKCH, we make sure you know what to expect, so you feel confident about your heart treatment. Watch our What to Expect video to learn more about open heart surgery.
