Community Roots Garden
In March 2025, North Kansas City Hospital and Meritas Health laid down roots and cultivated a community garden to address one of the most pressing healthcare challenges in our region, food insecurity.
The Community Roots Garden is located on the hospital’s main campus near the west entrance. It consists of six 4-feet by 12-feet raised garden beds that will produce a variety of produce. This is the first of a growing three-phase plan that will branch out into an on-site orchard, a paved pathway and a community learning pavilion.
With each season, we can’t wait to watch as new fruits, vegetables and shaded infrastructure are added to better serve our community at no cost. Our goal is to encourage healthier eating habits, serve as a solution to food insecurity and provide educational opportunities on sustainable gardening.
