Samuel U. RodgersExpectant mothers in the Northland will have easier access to prenatal care thanks to a new partnership between North Kansas City Hospital and Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center. The two healthcare providers will work together to provide quality care through every stage of pregnancy.

Through the partnership, Samuel U. Rodgers healthcare professionals will provide prenatal care for mom and baby until the final weeks of pregnancy. At that time, the clinic will transfer the mother, along with her medical records, to a Meritas Health obstetrician, who will oversee her care and the baby’s delivery at North Kansas City Hospital. After the delivery, mother and baby will return to Samuel U. Rodgers for their postpartum and pediatric health needs.

“We are excited to further serve the families of the Northland through this partnership with North Kansas City Hospital,” said Hilda Fuentes, president and CEO of Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center. “Not only will we be able to provide quality healthcare services, but we will be able to deliver them in a convenient location.” North Kansas City Hospital donated the office space for the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center Northland Prenatal and Pediatric Clinic, which officially opened January 17th.

If you’re pregnant it’s important to begin your prenatal care as soon as possible. Your doctor will check on your health as well as the development of your baby.

Tips for Prenatal Care

  • Take a multivitamin or prenatal vitamin with folic acid every day. Folic acid is most important in the early stages of pregnancy, but you should continue taking folic acid throughout pregnancy.
  • Ask your doctor before stopping any medicines or starting any new medicines. Some medicines are not safe during pregnancy. Keep in mind that even over-the-counter medicines and herbal products may cause side effects or other problems.
  • Get a flu shot. Pregnant women can get very sick from the flu and may need hospital care.
  • Eat a variety of healthy foods. Choose fruits, vegetables, whole grains, calcium-rich foods, and foods low in saturated fat. Also, make sure to drink plenty of fluids, especially water.
  • Gain a healthy amount of weight. Your doctor can tell you how much weight gain you should aim for during pregnancy.
  • Don’t smoke, drink alcohol, or use drugs. These can cause long-term harm or death to your baby. Ask your doctor for help quitting.
  • Unless your doctor tells you not to, try to get at least 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity a week.

The new facility is located at 5330 North Oak Trfy. Ste 104 Kansas City, MO 64118
