Thanksgiving is about family and feasting. While we look forward to stuffing our bellies, there are plenty of fun things to do before and after the main course. As you plan the menu, also think about creating other fun holiday traditions with your loved ones.

1. Go for a Walk

Start the long day of cooking and entertaining with a walk to get energized. Or plan a stroll around your neighborhood or nearby park after dinner to walk off some calories.

2. Ice Skate at Crown Center

Bundle up and jump into the holiday spirit by ice skating at Crown Center. This family-favorite activity can be incorporated before or after your Thanksgiving meal to get your body moving and exercising.

3. Participate in a Turkey Trot

Sign up for one of America’s oldest traditions and bond with your family by participating in a Turkey Trot. For people of all ages, participants can walk or run the routes, ranging from one mile to 10 miles.

4. Start Holiday Shopping

Some department stores open Thanksgiving evening or start their online Black Friday deals early. Put together your game plan for everyone on your list and get a jump start on your holiday shopping.

5. Play Touch Football

Touch football is another fun physical activity for the entire family. Use your backyard or find a field big enough to run and let the games begin.

6. Play Board Games or Charades

Keep your guests and the little ones entertained with games. From board games to charades, this may be the perfect way to engage family members who may not be as mobile or if it’s cold outside.

7. Take a Scenic Drive

Buckle up and take the long way around the neighborhood. Take in the scenery and enjoy the changing leaves. Consider stopping by the Country Club Plaza for the holiday lights display that begins Thanksgiving night.

8. Volunteer in the Community

This time of year, many community resources are overwhelmed with people who need help. Thanksgiving is a perfect time to give back. You and your family can volunteer at a soup kitchen or deliver meals to help local organizations.

9. Watch or Attend a Parade

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has become a holiday highlight for many families. The entertainment is great for kids and the cooks. Check out what’s going on in your area as several small towns host their own holiday parade.

10. Watch a Football Game

It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without football. With up to three games airing throughout the day, sit back, relax and get into the football spirit – even if your team isn’t playing.

Don’t stress about how to keep guests entertained this holiday season. With these 10 activities, there’s something for everyone. We hope you have a happy and healthy holiday season.
