North Kansas City Hospital and Meritas Health’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a recipient of the 2022 Press Ganey Human Experience Guardian of Excellence Award. This honor ranks NKCH and MH in the top 5% of hospital systems in the nation for providing a quality patient care experience.

Press Ganey provides healthcare technology solutions to over 41,000 healthcare facilities. Its survey platform offers tools for employee engagement, patient experience, marketing and analytics. From July 2020 through March 2022, NICU families rated the system highly for the level of care and likelihood to recommend it to others.

“Our NICU team cares for our smallest, most vulnerable patients,” said Kerri Jenkins, senior vice president and chief operating officer for NKCH and MH. “Every day, they help newborns who need specialized intensive care. We are so proud to see them honored among the very best in the nation.”

NKCH has the only Level III NICU in the Northland. Through a partnership with Children’s Mercy Kansas City, neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners care for babies born as early as 28 weeks.

“The patient families we serve have spoken, and we are humbled,” said Catherine Bonderer, senior director of NKCH’s Maternal Child Health Department. “Our team takes great pride in caring for all infants. Those born premature or with complications have a special place in our hearts. Their strength inspires us all.”
