North Kansas City Hospital and Meritas Health is ranked No. 20 among all employers in Missouri, moving up 34 positions from 2022. NKCH and MH ranked fifth among in-state hospitals and health systems, up from ninth last year. The health system ranked among Forbes Best Employers by State for the third time in four years.

“We are proud to be one of the 20 best companies to work for in Missouri,” said Stephen Reintjes Sr., MD, president and CEO of NKCH and MH. “We have worked diligently to build a culture that provides opportunity, encourages diversity and rewards excellence.”

Forbes and market research firm Statista surveyed 70,000 people from every state and Washington DC, representing companies with at least 500 employees. The anonymous surveys asked if participants would recommend their employers to others. Respondents evaluated employers on several factors, including compensation, development, diversity and work conditions. Participants also evaluated other companies in their areas.

“The values that guide our organization are central in our workplace,” said Dawn Bryant, vice president of Human Resources with NKCH and MH. “We believe compassion, teamwork, respect, accountability, quality and community should play critical roles in how we treat our patients and how we support our employees.”

This is the second time in 2023 NKCH and MH advanced in the Forbes rankings. In February, the annual list of America’s Best Midsize Employers ranked the health system No. 148 of 500 companies, up 34 spots from 2022. This survey of U.S. employees working for businesses with 1,000-5,000 workers also placed NKCH and MH as the top midsize hospital and health system employer in Kansas City for the second consecutive year.
