North Kansas City Hospital and its subsidiary, Meritas Health, are increasing their minimum base wage to $15 per hour, effective late December 2020. In an employee Town Hall last week, NKCH and Meritas Health President and CEO Stephen L. Reintjes Sr., MD, explained this change stems from the organization’s commitment to create a more diverse, inclusive and equitable workforce.

“We value all our employees and the incredible work they do on behalf of those we serve,” Dr. Reintjes Sr. said. “Providing a more equitable minimum base wage is the right thing to do.”

NKCH and Meritas Health employees, including patient care technicians, transporters, receptionists, dietary and environmental services workers, and other staff at the hospital and Meritas Health locations, will benefit from this wage increase.

“Throughout the pandemic, employees from every corner of our organization stepped up to care for those who needed it most,” Dr. Reintjes Sr. said. “This minimum base wage increase is one way we’re stepping up to care for our NKCH and Meritas Health family.”

The minimum base wage increase will be permanent, reflecting the organization’s desire to maintain its regional reputation as an Employer of Choice.
