In U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals 2022-2023 rankings and ratings, North Kansas City Hospital tied for third Best Hospital in the Kansas City metro area. This honor recognizes the hospital’s performance in complex care in medical specialties and in common procedures and conditions. NKCH also ranked High Performing in 10 procedures and conditions and received a Best Regional Hospital designation.

The annual rankings and ratings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive quality care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures. “This prestigious honor is a reflection of the tireless commitment of our doctors, nurses and staff,” said Stephen Reintjes Sr., MD, president and CEO of North Kansas City Hospital and Meritas Health. “They are the driving force in providing outstanding, outcomes-based, quality care our patients have come to trust from North Kansas City Hospital.”

NKCH increased its High Performing ratings from nine to 10 adult procedures and conditions:

  1. Aortic valve surgery
  2. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  3. Colon cancer surgery
  4. Diabetes
  5. Heart attack
  6. Heart failure
  7. Hip fracture
  8. Hip replacement
  9. Kidney failure
  10. Knee replacement

U.S. News evaluated each hospital’s performance using a variety of measures, such as survival rates, complication rates, patient experience and level of nursing care. The Best Hospitals methodology factors in data from the American Hospital Association, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, professional organizations and medical specialists. U.S. News assessed nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide.
