Optimizing Technology to Enhance Patient Care

In November 2023, North Kansas City Hospital launched CareAware Connect, a new technology platform from Oracle Cerner. This smartphone technology implementation streamlines communication among different departments and healthcare professionals, improving safety, enhancing patient care and reducing identification errors.

“CareAware Connect helps us expand patient-centered care team communications,” said Kerri Jenkins, RN, MBA, senior vice president and chief operating officer. “It provides one-touch access for staff to talk and collaborate with the patient at the center of the conversation.”

Various departments use CareAware Connect to develop better workload balances, enhance workflow efficiencies and improve patient care collaboration. For example, our lab scans patient armband barcodes to ensure safety and correct patient identification. The transportation team uses this technology to manage patient flow throughout various hospital locations.
