History
From its humble beginnings more than 60 years ago to its current status as a premiere healthcare facility, North Kansas City Hospital has always symbolized quality health and wellness in the Northland and surrounding communities.
The idea for a community hospital began with a grassroots effort and a two-day chili event that raised $1,000.05. The event sparked community interest, and the additional construction funds poured in. The hospital opened March 30, 1958, as an 80-bed facility.
Today, North Kansas City Hospital is a 451-licensed bed, acute-care facility situated on 69 acres. The campus encompasses the Pavilion (patient rooms, outpatient services, staff offices, physician offices and a conference center); the Health Center, which houses Signature Psychiatric Health; two physician office buildings, known as Medical Plaza and Professional Building; and NorthCare Hospice House, the Northland's only hospice house.
Decades of Expansion
Over the course of 60+ years, multiple expansion projects allowed the hospital to better serve the needs of the growing community. Between 1960 and 1972, the hospital added 230 beds, bringing the total number of beds at that time to 310. Additional construction in the early 1990s resulted in 12 floors of private patient rooms.
Between 2000 and 2005, the hospital focused on the Pavilion project which increased its bed capacity to 451 and added seven stories for inpatient beds, outpatient services and additional physician offices. It also created 1,300 parking spaces and expanded the Laboratory, Surgery and Emergency Department areas. Walkways on each floor connect the main hospital with the Pavilion.

Together with Meritas Health, the hospital’s wholly-owned subsidiary since 1993, our health system offers the largest network of physician practices in the Northland.
