Innovative Urological Care

When you come to NKCH for urology, you get effective treatment — and much more. Discover how we care with compassion, use less invasive methods and promote faster healing.

You’ll work with skilled urologists who provide a full range of services. You’ll also have access to innovative treatments and advanced technology, including robotic surgery.

We partner with the Mid America Kidney Stone Association (MAKSA) to offer lithotripsy, a safe and nonsurgical procedure for treating kidney stones. MAKSA staff perform lithotripsy on our campus every other Monday. NKCH also is one of the few hospitals in the Northland to offer Aquablation® for treating an enlarged prostate. For more information about lithotripsy, call 816.691.1366.

Urology Services

Find the urology treatments you need for your condition. We offer:

  • Adrenalectomy – Removes noncancerous tumors from the adrenal gland with surgery.
  • Aquablation – Helps treat an enlarged prostate with imaging, robotics and water. You may consider this treatment if medications do not work. It offers a way to preserve the part of the prostate that controls sexual function.
  • Lithotripsy – Uses sound waves to break up a kidney stone, so you can pass it in your urine.
  • Nephroureterectomy – Removes a kidney and ureter with surgery.
  • Partial or total nephrectomy – Removes all or part of a kidney with traditional open surgery or less invasive robotic surgery.
  • Prostatectomy – Removes the prostate. You may have this surgery if you have prostate cancer that is only in the prostate.
  • Pyeloplasty – Clears an obstruction in the path from the kidney to the bladder.
  • Renal cyst decortication – Removes noncancerous, fluid-filled sacs in the kidney.

You may benefit from minimally invasive urologic procedures, including robotic surgery. Minimally invasive surgery often uses smaller incisions. The surgeon inserts a camera through an incision, so they have a magnified view inside the body. This approach, when possible, usually results in faster recovery than traditional, open surgery.
