Beginning Jan. 1, 2020, the Protecting Access to Medicare Act requires referring providers to consult appropriate use criteria when ordering advanced imaging services listed below. To help, you can rely on the approved CDS tool in your EMR or our website, vetted by the American College of Radiology, to determine appropriate use criteria.
- Computed tomography
- Nuclear medicine
- Magnetic resonance imaging
- Positron emission tomography
What if I cannot find an appropriate reason?
You can select ‘I can’t find a match’ and add a free text as a reason for the exam.
Am I required to adhere to the CDS recommendations?
No. The CDS tool provides point-of-care guidance and does not force or prevent your decision-making.
What if I don't have access to the Cerner PowerChart?
You can use CareSelect. You must first register your unique NPI. After you establish your user name and password, you will be taken to the CareSelect Login page. After logging in, you may consult the CDS tool.
