Pelvic Health Experts
In the Northland, we’re lucky to have pelvic health expert Ian M. Rosbrugh, MD, FACOG. He’s the only full-time gynecologist in the area who is board certified in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. That means he has special training and treatment options to help those suffering from pelvic floor disorders.
What’s the Pelvic Floor?
The pelvic floor includes the muscles, ligaments, tissues and nerves that help support and control the pelvic organs. Your pelvic organs include your bladder, rectum, uterus and vagina.
What Are Pelvic Floor Disorders?
Pelvic floor conditions are common and can occur at any age. An estimated one-third of women experience pelvic floor disorders, which happen when the support and function of the pelvic organs weaken due to osteoporosis or other conditions.
A woman may be more at risk for pelvic floor disorders if she has a history of hernias, has given birth, has had pelvic surgery, or has a labor-intensive job with a lot of lifting and straining.
