When your wounds aren't healing with traditional care, our North Kansas City Hospital (NKCH) Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Center is ready with advanced treatment methods that aren’t widely available. Depending on your condition and wound type, your doctor will put together a care team that will likely include certified wound nurses, hyperbaric technologists, home health nurses and physical therapists.

When to See a Wound Specialist

If you have a burn, cut or wound that hasn’t started healing within two weeks — or finished healing in six weeks — it’s best to see your primary care doctor to decide if specialized wound care is right for you.

Conditions We Treat

Our wound experts and certified hyperbaric technologists care for a wide variety of chronic, nonhealing wounds and conditions, including:

• Bone infection (Osteomyelitis)
• Compromised skin flaps and grafts
• Diabetic foot ulcers
• Late effects of radiation
• Pressure ulcers
• Skin tears, infected wounds and non-healing lacerations
• Slow or nonhealing surgical wounds
• Venous Statis ulcers, nonhealing wounds around the ankle or lower leg

Wound Treatment

Working closely with you — and other specialists as needed — your care team will take the time to answer your questions and develop a plan of care that meets your unique needs and goals.

Your treatment may include:

• Bio-Engineered skin substitutes (skin-like products) to protect your wounds and promote healing with synthetic tissue
• Debridement to remove infected, damaged or dead tissue so your wound can heal
• Dressing and wraps to promote wound healing by protecting healthy skin
• Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to speed up wound healing by increasing the amount of oxygen in your blood
• Medication, such as antibiotics, to treat infections and wounds
