What is a Neurologist?

Neurologists are doctors who specialize in the field of neurology to diagnose and treat conditions that affect the central nervous system. These conditions involve the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves. Neurologists also have training in stroke, sleep medicine, pain management and movement disorders.

  • Computed tomography (CT) to capture 3D images
  • Electroencephalogram (EEG) to measure electrical brain activity
  • Electromyography (EMG) to measure electrical nerve and muscle activity
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to capture images
  • Ultrasound to generate photos using sound waves

Stroke Care

Time is critical when someone is having a stroke. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room (ER) if you or someone you’re with has stroke symptoms. Your NKCH team is a Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Center and ready to get you the stroke care you need, fast. We’ll determine the cause of the stroke and provide a personalized treatment plan. After a stroke, you’ll benefit from stroke rehabilitation. Rehab aims to improve communication, as well as physical and cognitive skills.

Being certified means we meet high standards set by The Joint Commission, American Heart Association and American Stroke Association for caring for patients with stroke. It also reflects our long-term success in improving patient outcomes.
