About Me

With three growing boys, most of my free time is dedicated to my family. As a result, most of the free time my wife and I share together is with our kids, either with their respective events, nearby hikes or enjoying all Kansas City has to offer. We enjoy an active lifestyle, usually traveling to places where we can explore new environments and cultures.

Care Philosophy

I genuinely believe in treating the whole person, so understanding the "why" behind a disease process rather than focusing exclusively on the management. Too often in medicine we may identify patients with the same disease process, yet the management may be unique to the individual based on what is driving the process, other medical comorbidities or patient preferences that make the treatment best tapered to the patient.

Area of Interest

From an early age, I always enjoyed the science of the human body. I truly felt the calling to help others in high school, at which time I dedicated my education toward a career in medicine. My initial interest was in pediatrics, and my early aspiration was to pursue a career in adult congenital heart disease. While I still am interested in congenital heart disease, my true passion in this field is preventive cardiovascular and metabolic health, with additional interests in cardiac imaging, cardio-oncology and heart disease in athletes.
I think there is something inherently poetic about the heart in that it is symbolic of life and vitality. Although nearly half of the population will experience some form of cardiovascular disease, one of the best aspects of my field is that, through clinical research, advancements in heart care are allowing us to treat patients more effectively and giving us opportunities to intervene early and still provide excellent outcomes, many times without significant alterations to quality of life or loss of functional independence.
