On-Site Health Screenings

Host a free health screening with North Kansas City Hospital’s Community Health & Wellness team. Preventive health screenings help people understand their risk for developing chronic conditions before symptoms appear so they can act.

The non-invasive cardio health screening evaluates risk factors for cardiovascular disease, peripheral artery disease, osteoporosis, stroke and other serious illnesses. A complete cholesterol blood test (also known as a lipid panel) uses just a finger-stick blood sample to measure the amount of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. We use point of care testing for almost immediate results of cholesterol or glucose levels in the blood. This test provides measurements useful for monitoring overall health.

For a small fee, NKCH offers type 2 diabetes screenings. The test is a finger-stick blood glucose screening called a hemoglobin A1c. It calculates the average glucose level in blood over the previous three months. This test is the medical standard for understanding if your body is using glucose properly. For results to be accurate, participants cannot eat or drink anything other than water for 12 hours prior to screening.

Height and Weight
Height and weight can be used to figure body mass index (BMI). BMI is used as a general guideline to determine if someone is under or overweight. Higher BMI can indicate risk for several health problems such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure and certain types of cancers.

Blood Pressure
Blood pressure, the force of the blood flowing through blood vessels, is a combination of two values, the systolic number over the diastolic number. Systolic blood pressure measures how much pressure your blood exerts on the walls of your arteries when the heart beats. Diastolic blood pressure is the pressure your blood exerts in between heartbeats. Regular blood pressure screenings are important as even small increases can increase the risk for dangerous illnesses and conditions.
