PGY-1
Program Structure
The PGY-1 residency program started in 2017 and has grown to three PGY-1 positions.
Residency Program Director: Michael Kallenberger, PharmD, BCPS, DPLA; email Michael.Kallenberger@nkch.org.
Each resident undergoes an Orientation and Training learning experience that focuses on operational functions, which are the backbone of pharmacy services.
Following the Orientation and Training learning experience, residents complete an additional four required standard learning experiences, five required longitudinal learning experiences and three elective learning experiences. These experiences are flexible and based on each PGY-1 resident’s interests. Each standard learning experience lasts approximately six weeks, with the exception of the electives, NICU and Metabolic Support (three weeks). If a three-week experience is completed, it must be taken with another three-week experience. Longitudinal Ambulatory clinic will start during orientation and each resident will average one day in clinic every two weeks throughout the residency year.
