Auxiliary

Who We Are

Nearly 100 members strong, the Auxiliary has been fundraising on behalf of the hospital for more than 50 years.

What We Do

The Auxiliary operates the hospital's Gift Shop and conducts fundraisers throughout the year, like sales that offer a variety of products and are convenient shopping for staff and visitors alike. They also host monthly blood drives and respond to help with other hospital functions.

Since 2021, the Auxiliary has supported NKCH by donating more than $230,000. The funding has supported initiatives such as:

  • Camera for neo-natal losses
  • Emergency Department CT scanner project
  • Golf cart for security to assist with patient transports to vehicles

We aim to bring assistance and comfort to patients, visitors, volunteers and staff.  We believe that NKCH is the preferred place to receive and give care.

The car seat program provides qualifying families a free car seat to safely travel home with their newborn. Missouri state law requires all newborn babies be secured in a car seat when being discharged from the hospital.

The Auxiliary has awarded numerous educational scholarships to employees and volunteers. More than $125,000 has been given to those who meet eligibility requirements.

The North Kansas City Hospital School of Medical Laboratory Science is the top program in the city and one of only six programs in Missouri. NKCH Auxiliary pledged to provide support to students going through this extensive program. Starting the summer of 2023, each MLS student will receive a $2,000 scholarship to help offset the costs of board exam fees, textbooks and tuition expenses.

In 2023, the Auxiliary donated $18,000 to purchase a TRANS-SIT® simulator for occupational therapy patients to learn and practice car transfer skills. The car has functional doors, a tilt-steering wheel, seatbelts and two seats. Space behind the seats simulates loading and unloading a wheelchair. Another helpful feature is a hydraulic lift, which allows the car to be raised and lowered to mirror the car the patient drives. Last, a reaction time tester correlates reaction times while driving. The tester can help the physician determine if outpatient driving rehabilitation is needed.
