Immunotherapy Therapy

Biological therapy, also known as immunotherapy, helps the immune system fight cancer and other diseases. These therapies work on very specific cancer cell markers. Medications called monoclonal antibodies target and destroy these cells. Only a select group of people benefit from biological therapy.

Your doctor will tell you which biological therapy you are eligible for, if any. For example, if a woman produces too much HER2 protein, she may receive Herceptin. It blocks HER2 and can slow or stop the growth of cancer cells. Herceptin is given by IV. It may be used alone or with other chemo medications. Biological therapy may be used to treat breast cancer.
