Ian Rosbrugh, MD, FACOG, and Thomas Shireman, MD, have been named NKCH’s Department of Surgery chairman and Department of Medicine chairman, respectively. Their two-year terms were effective July 1.
Dr. Rosbrugh, a urogynecologist, operates the Meritas Health Pavilion for Women Pelvic Health and Reconstructive Surgery Clinic. He joined the medical staff in 2007 and has served the hospital in various capacities, including as chair of the Department of Surgery, Maternal-Child Services and the Surgery Advisory Committee.
Dr. Rosbrugh earned his medical degree from Loma Linda University Medical Center in 2003 and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Kansas in 2007.
A fellow of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology, he is board certified in OB-GYN and female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Shireman is a gastroenterologist with Digestive Health Specialists. Prior to joining NKCH in 2000, he was an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Oklahoma and then with Digestive Disease Specialists in Oklahoma. At NKCH, he also is a member of the Infection Control and Resource Utilization committees.
Dr. Shireman earned his combined bachelor’s and medical degrees from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1986. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital in 1989 and fellowship is gastroenterology at the University of Oklahoma in 1992.
Dr. Shireman is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
In these roles, the department chairs:
- Administer all professional, clinical and administrative activities within the department
- Communicate and implement within the department actions taken by the Executive Committee, the Board of Trustees and other relevant authorities
- Assist in developing and implementing quality control programs for monitoring and evaluating the quality and appropriateness of the care and treatment of patients served by the department and the clinical performance of all individuals with clinical privileges in the department in cooperation with the Executive Committee
- Maintain continuing review of patient care and the professional performance of its members
- Prepare and transmit to the appropriate authorities recommendations concerning appointment, reappointment and delineation of clinical privileges of its members exercising privileges and performing services in the Department.
