Joseph B. Eisenach, MD, a gastroenterologist with Consultants in Gastroenterology, is North Kansas City Hospital’s new medical staff president. He started his one-year term July 1, 2020.

He holds a deep appreciation for NKCH, which he joined in 1994. “North Kansas City Hospital is unique in that our staff, physicians and administration work together toward a common goal for quality patient care,” Dr. Eisenach said. “I love this hospital and would not want to work anywhere else. Indeed, we endeavor to follow our mission to provide hope and healing to every life we touch, and I hope to carry on this culture of excellence and cooperation.”

As Medical Staff president, Dr. Eisenach chairs the Medical Executive Committee, provides leadership to his colleagues, and acts as a liaison between the medical staff and the hospital’s administration. He has served the hospital in various capacities, including as chair of the Department of Medicine, Medical Records Committee and Medicine Advisory Committee. He also has been a member of the CME Advisory, Infection Control, Physicians Health and Surgery Advisory committees.

Dr. Eisenach earned his medical degree from the University of Nebraska in 1982. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Nebraska Hospitals. Following his gastroenterology/hepatology fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, he joined The University of Kansas Hospital. At KU, he served as an assistant professor of medicine, director of transplant hepatology and director of the gallstone lithotripsy unit. He joined Consultants in Gastroenterology in 1993 and was on staff at the former Medical Center of Independence, where he served as Medical Staff president.

Dr. Eisenach, who has American Board of Internal Medicine certifications in internal medicine and gastroenterology, has a special interest in diseases and conditions of the liver. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, American College of Gastroenterology and American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Past awards include a National Institutes of Health training grant and an ASGE research award.

He succeeds Gerald Y. Park, MD, a urologist with Kansas City Urology Care, past president. Scott W. Kujath, MD, FACS, a vascular surgeon with Midwest Aortic and Vascular Institute, and Michael W. Farrar, MD, FACC, FASE, a cardiologist with Meritas Health Cardiology, are president-elect and secretary treasurer, respectively.
