Healthcare Hero

Ingram’s Magazine recognized Gary Carter, MD, opens new tab, chief medical officer, among its Heroes in Healthcare in the February 2019 issue. Dr. Carter was honored for his lifetime of service to the hospital. Before being named chief medical officer in 2013, Dr. Carter practiced emergency medicine for 25 years. He earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri and completed his residency in emergency medicine at the University of Louisville. In 2008, he completed his master’s in business administration at the University of Tennessee.

Community Health

NKCH received the Kansas City Medical Society’s Community Service Award at the group’s annual meeting in November.

The society gives the annual award to a physician or organization that voluntarily contributes to the health of the community. “The committee chose NKCH because of their generous contributions to the MetroCARE program over the past 10 years,” said Angela Bedell, executive director of the Kansas City Medical Society.

MetroCARE improves access to medical care for low-income, uninsured residents of Jackson, Clay and Platte counties through volunteerism by healthcare professionals. More than 400 volunteer specialty care physicians and safety net clinics provide services.

The Kansas City Medical Society is a 3,400-member physician organization that works to advance the health of people in Kansas City through physician leadership, advocacy and innovation.

Wound Healing

NKCH’s Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Center, opens new tab earned reaccreditation from the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society, the recognized authority in the field of hyperbaric medicine. The Center is the only accredited facility in the Northland, and one of only six accredited centers in Missouri.

UHMS accreditation means the Center meets or exceeds the highest standards of patient care and safety, determined through rigorous evaluation of its operations, including equipment, staff and training programs.
