North Kansas City Hospital is a state-certified Level II Trauma Center. This designation means that in addition to providing life-saving care for critically injured patients, we have adequate facilities, specialized personnel, ongoing training for personnel, continuous self-monitoring and a desire to prevent trauma.

Whether you have been in a fire, car accident or another traumatic event, we have the staff, equipment and expertise needed to deliver life-saving trauma care. Trauma care begins with EMS response in the field. From the moment we know you are on the way to the hospital, our Trauma and Emergency Department staff start preparing for your arrival. We're ready to conduct fast assessments and provide timely medical treatment. From initial treatment to rehabilitation, we're there every step of the way. 

The Trauma Team

The multidisciplinary Trauma Team is comprised of: 

  • Emergency physicians and staff
  • Trauma surgeons from various specialties
  • Operating Room charge nurses
  • Intensive Care Unit charge nurses
  • Respiratory therapists
  • Blood bank staff
  • X-ray and CT technicians
  • Clinical nurse managers
  • Trauma services staff
  • Chaplains
  • Security personnel

Facts and Prevention

According to the Centers for Disease Control:

  • Most trauma injuries and deaths are preventable
  • Injuries are the leading cause of death for children and adults ages 1–44 in the United States
  • Motor vehicle-related crashes are the leading cause of death in the United States, killing 90 people per day on average and sending more than 4 million people to the ER each year
  • Among adults age 65 or older, falls are the leading cause of injury death and the most common cause of nonfatal injuries and hospital admissions for trauma
  • If you’re severely injured, getting care at a trauma center can lower your risk of death by 25% or more
