Nutrition for Cancer Care
Nutrition is always a key component of health. But it’s especially important if you have cancer, when the disease and its treatments can drain your energy and cause a host of disruptive side effects, including nausea, reduced appetite and trouble swallowing, which can make eating difficult. Keeping yourself strong during treatment is a proactive way to help fight the disease. That’s why we make nutrition an important part of your cancer treatment plan.
Nutrition Services We Offer
At North Kansas City Hospital, our cancer care team includes dietitians who specialize in working with people with cancer. You’ll be well informed and fully supported at every turn, and you’ll feel stronger at each stage of care.
These cancer nutrition specialists can help you make the best diet decisions based on your calorie and nutrient needs, which will help you feel stronger during treatment. Our dietitians can also help you with issues including what to eat during cancer treatment and how to manage side effects like a loss of appetite.
We offer both inpatient and outpatient nutrition counseling services, which include:
- Patient assessment and education
- Parenteral nutrition recommendations
- Supplemental nutrition support
- Tube feeding management
Meet with a Cancer Nutrition Specialist
We advise meeting with a dietitian before you begin treatment and scheduling regular follow-ups throughout your treatment course. Our dietitians are available to you from diagnosis all the way through survivorship.
If you’d like to use our outpatient nutrition counseling services, you’ll need a referral from an oncologist. Once our team receives your referral, one of our dietitians will contact you to schedule an appointment.
