Beware of Spoofed Phone Calls

It has come to our attention that some individuals are receiving spoofed phone calls that appear to come from our medical facility. These are fraudulent calls to attempt to solicit personal information, financial details or other sensitive data.

What is a Spoofed Phone Call?

A spoofed phone call is when a caller deliberately falsifies their information that's transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity. These calls can appear to come from trusted numbers, including those of hospitals, clinics or other healthcare providers.

How to Identify a Spoofed Call

  • Unsolicited Requests: Be cautious if you receive an unexpected call asking for personal or financial information.
  • Urgency or Threats: Fraudulent callers often use scare tactics, claiming immediate action is required.
  • Check the Number: If the caller ID shows a number you recognize but the request seems unusual, hang up and call the number back directly.
  • Verify Information: Always verify the caller's identity and the legitimacy of their request. Do not provide sensitive information over the phone unless you are certain of the caller's identity.

If You Receive a Spoofed Call

  • Do Not Provide Information: Do not give out personal, financial or medical information over the phone unless you are sure of the caller's identity.
  • Hang Up: If you suspect the call is fraudulent, hang up immediately.
  • Verify: Call your doctor's office directly to verify.
  • Report the Call: Contact our office at 816.691.2000 to report the incident.
