Our Program
Many different specialists work together to create a plan that works for you.
A PORi Center of Excellence exemplifies best practice in providing specialized oncology rehabilitation services for patients who have been diagnosed with any type of cancer in any phase of cancer treatment or survivorship.
Cardio-Oncology Rehabilitation
Our 12-week cardio-oncology rehabilitation program, called CORE, can help relieve symptoms of cardiac toxicity so you can safely increase your physical activity level and reduce cancer-related fatigue.
Physical and Occupational Therapy
Our physical and occupational therapists treat:
- Balance issues
- Cancer-related fatigue
- Cardiac toxicity with cardio-oncology rehabilitation
- Lymphedema
- Pain issues, including pain related to neuropathy
- Pelvic floor problems
Speech and Language Pathology
Our speech and language therapists provide:
- Therapy to reintroduce foods and liquids, with the help of a dietitian
- Therapy to improve issues related to difficulty swallowing and chewing due to radiation
- Thought and memory retraining, including chemo brain support
- Voice retraining
Nutritional Consultation
Our dietitians can:
- Evaluate your nutritional needs
- Give guidance on foods that build your strength and prevent unplanned weight loss
- Help you manage appetite changes and food tolerances
- Provide feeding tube management
Ongoing Support
(no referral needed)
Our nurse navigators can:
- Answer questions
- Attend your on-campus doctors visits
- Check in during your hospital stay
- Follow you throughout your care
- Provide education and guidance to you and your family.
We also have a genetic liaison and a clinical trial researcher.
Social Services
Our social workers help with:
- Completing an advance directive and/or durable power of attorney
- Coping strategies for emotional stressors
- Insurance, disability, Medicaid, transportation and temporary lodging
- Medication, nutritional, financial and medical equipment resources
- Short-term counseling and/or referrals to psychologists, educational resources and support groups
